KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry will ensure the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) project will be completed by July 2024.
Its minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the main focus was to complete at least four out of the total six ships.
"I am taking the matter seriously. Our mission is to complete the ship. We will (only) base our consideration purely on commercial consideration and make sure at least four of the ships are completed.
"I will continue the efforts that have been put in by by the ministry to ensure the project is being completed.
"We will take this to the finance and economic ministries for further consideration and discuss the full picture (of the project)," he said when delivering his new year's message at Wisma Pertahanan, today.
Also present were Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari and the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Sri Muez Abdul Aziz.
Mohamad added that the the Defence Ministry would ensure the procurement for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) could be completed by this year.
"I will also revisit other main procurement projects that have been proposed this year," he said.
Last December, Mohamad said the LCS project would continue but to be subjected to a review, adding that he needed to be briefed to get a clearer picture of the multi-billion ringgit project which had been hit by delays.
