KUALA TERENGGANU: Nur Hasmidah Hamzah does not look any different from other women, but in reality, the 32-year-old housewife was born with two uteruses, two cervixes and two vaginas.
The mother of a one-year-old girl also revealed that she only has a kidney.
Nur Hasmidah's unique condition recently gained attention on TikTok when she talked about having a 'bicornuate bicollis uterus'.
Sharing her life story on the social media platform, Nur Hasmidah said that she looked at her condition and situation with an open mind and wanted to spread awareness about women's health based on her own experiences.
She said it wasn't until she was 26 that she learned about her condition after undergoing Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
She had been menstruating continuously for three months at the time, prompting her to seek medical attention.
"I hope parents will be more aware of their children's health conditions. At 14 years old, I bled in my hostel, but I did not tell anyone because I was afraid of being scolded or seeing the doctor.
"Alhamdulillah, many women have expressed their gratitude for my bravery for sharing my experience since it rarely happens.
"As per the doctor, my uterus and reproductive system are very unique in the sense that it is a one in a million occurrence and there are very few women like me who have two uteruses and reproductive systems," she said when contacted.
Nur Hasmidah said that, according to her doctor, having two uteruses is not dangerous, but rather a "unique condition."
"A woman with such a condition will, however, have difficulty getting pregnant and, even if and when she does get pregnant, will be more likely to miscarry and give birth prematurely because there isn't enough space in the womb due to her abnormal condition," Nur Hasmidah said.
In spite of her situation, Nur Hasmidah said she was thankful as Allah SWT granted and blessed her with the "best gift possible" when she was confirmed to be pregnant after a month of getting married when she was 29-years-old.
"When I was pregnant, I was very, very careful and took good care of myself and our child. The doctor also advised me to watch my diet, food intake and consumption.
"I am also very grateful because my husband accepts me for who I am. And my family also supports me," she said.
