Melaka records 10.21 per cent increase in tithe collection

MELAKA: Melaka collected a total of RM116.8 million in tithes (Zakat) up to Dec 31 last year, an increase of 10.21 per cent compared to the same period in 2021.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said the number of tithe payers also increased by 2,461 to 53,414 compared to the 50,953 in 2021.

"The biggest collection was tithe from personal income at RM69.4 million followed by savings (RM22.4 million), business (RM16.8 million), and tithe on gold and silver (RM1.65 million).

The lowest collection was agriculture at RM57,347," he told reporters after 17 companies handed over their business tithes totalling RM4.3 million here today.

Sulaiman said Zakat Melaka aims to collect about RM118 million in tithes this year. – Bernama
