KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have received more than 100 applications for police escorts from school personnel carrying cash for students' financial aid.
State police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the applications were submitted at police stations state-wide since last week.
The requests, he said, were made for security reason and to prevent untoward incidents.
"The applications were submitted either by the schools' principles or headmasters in all the ten districts.
"The requests were made only when it involves huge amounts," he told reporters after launching the Co-Volunteers Engagement Programme with students at SMK Raja Sakti here today.
Zaki said the application for police escort could also be made by other parties, but it must be submitted early to allow proper arrangements to be made.
He was commenting on car break-in case where a thief made away with RM109,000 of students aid money that a 50-year-old school headmaster left in his parked vehicle in Kampung Baru Semenyih, Selangor.
On the programme, he said the pilot project involve some 800 students and more than 200 students from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and Universiti Teknologi Mara.
"Police, with the co-operation of the universities and state education department, will continue to carry out this engagement programme in other schools.
"This programme, among others, is aimed to educate students not to get involved in immoral activities," he added.
