MELAKA: Six people were injured in a four-vehicle crash at the Jalan Tun Razak - Lebuh Ayer Keroh traffic light intersection, near an iron factory, here, yesterday afternoon.
In the 3.08pm incident, the injured comprised two passengers of a bus, the driver and passenger of a Perodua Myvi and the driver and passenger of a Nissan Almera. The victims were aged between 24 and 64 years old.
The 50-year-old bus driver and 56-year-old fireman from Singapore who was in a fourth vehicle, a Hyundai Starex multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) were not injured.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said his department received a call on the accident at 3.10pm before a police team was dispatched to the scene to investigate.
He said a preliminary investigation found that the bus was on its way from Melaka city centre to Ayer Keroh and the road and weather conditions at the scene of the incident were good.
"It is believed that the accident occurred when the bus passed through the traffic light intersection and crashed into the rear of the Perodua Myvi, which in turn caused it to collide with two other cars in the front.
"As a result of the crash, two bus passengers, the driver and passenger of the Perodua Myvi, as well as the driver and passenger of the Nissan Almera were injured," he said in a statement here.
He said all victims were taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment with two of them placed in the yellow zone and the other four in the green zone.
The case is being investigated in under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving resulting in an accident.
