'Pakej Perpaduan' prepaid mobile package offers internet connection at RM30

KUALA LUMPUR: The 'Pakej Perpaduan' prepaid mobile internet package, offering internet connectivity to the masses at a lower price, is now available in the market.

Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, said the package was among the government's efforts to help the B40 segment, including armed forces veterans, police and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) retirees, the differently-abled as well as senior citizens.

"This is meant to lessen the burden on the people and at the same time, ensure that the public have access to telecommunications, including quality internet at affordable prices.

"Close ties between the ministry and the industry, who have continued to offer solid support, will ensure that the implementation of this package proceeds smoothly and reaches the target group," he said.

He was speaking at the launch of the package at the Desa Rejang public housing scheme here today.

Fahmi said the cooperation was in line with the government's wish to reduce cost of living and at the same time, ensure comprehensive digital connectivity.

"The move to reduce prices clearly demonstrates that the government is giving serious focus to the people's need to enjoy telecommunication services at cheaper and affordable prices.

"This cooperation also shows that the government, together with telecommunication service providers, are sensitive to the needs and welfare of the people," he said.

Fahmi said the package offers 30 gigabytes of data with a speed of 3Mbps at only RM30. The package is valid for six months.

"The package also provides better quota and speed compared to the ones before.

"The internet is no longer a luxury but now a need, such as water and electricity, especially after the country was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent move to a new normal," he said.

He hoped that the initiative would help the target group capitalise on digital platforms and seize the opportunities available in the digital economy to boost their socioeconomic status, thus helping develop Malaysia's digital economy.
