KL plan delayed so DBKL can seek people's views, says Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: The delay in gazetting the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (PSKL 2040) will allow Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to seek and respond to the people's views.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the move was important to ensure that Kuala Lumpur's planners consider the voices of various parties, including residents' associations.

"This is important to ensure sustainable development and that no community feels that their voice is ignored... I think previously the people of Kuala Lumpur felt that they were not involved in the discussion of Kuala Lumpur's development.

"I also think it is fair for DBKL to respond to residents' associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) (regarding the proposal) who told me they had provided their views but received no feedback," the Lembah Pantai memebr of parliament said after taking part in making bubur lambuk organised by Yayasan TM at the Kampung Kerinchi People's Housing Project (PPR) here today.

Fahmi said he would examine the plan, in his capacity as an MP in Kuala Lumpur, to ensure that it is developed by taking into account the humane element in line with Madani principles introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Fahmi said all Kuala Lumpur MPs would be engaged, adding that one of his priorities was to maintain some residential areas from being turned into commercial areas.

Yesterday, Anwar said the gazetting of PSKL 2040 would be delayed until May 31 to allow DBKL to further engage stakeholders and get feedback.

In another development, Fahmi said he would discuss with DBKL and the Local Government Development Ministry to resolve faulty lifts in private residential buildings not under DBKL jurisdiction, such as low-cost flats. -- BERNAMA
