KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy traffic was reported in several major highways early this morning following an increase in the number of people returning to their hometowns ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) said as of 8am, several routes along the North-South Expressway (NSE) and Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway recorded high traffic flow.
A high volume of traffic was reported in northbound routes from Sungai Buaya to Bukit Tagar, Tanjung Malim to Behrang, Slim River to the Ladang Bikam lay-by, Bidor to Tapah, Tapah to Gopeng, Menora tunnel towards the Sungai Perak rest and recreation (R&R) area, and from the Kuala Kangsar R&R to Bukit Gantang.
The eastbound route along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway also saw a high number of vehicles particularly between the Gombak Toll Plaza and Bukit Tinggi.
Meanwhile, traffic was slow at Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 1 (LPT1) in the route heading towards the Kuala Terengganu Toll Plaza.
