MELAKA: The current hot and humid weather following the monsoon period is driving more people to install air-conditioners in their homes, resulting in electrical appliance shops enjoying brisk sales.
Checks by Bernama found that sales of air-conditioners have surged this month.
Electrical appliance salesperson Janice Ooh, 37, said air-conditioner sales at her shop has increased by 10 to 20 per cent this month due to the hot and humid weather.
"Customers now do not hesitate to buy an air-conditioning unit, costing anything from RM900, compared to previously when they only wanted to browse through the shop," she told Bernama here today (Apr 28).
Mohd Zamri Hamzah, the manager of an electrical shop along Jalan Perindustrian Bachang Baru here, said the sales of air-conditioners at his store has increased by several per cent this month.
"A total of 30 units of air-conditioners were sold during Ramadan. Apart from cooling the home, these air-conditioners come with the latest technology that can supply more oxygen to the premises.
"This technology is very good for the environment and very suitable too for use during this dry season," he said.
A customer, Husairi Ujang, 46, said he purchased three air-conditioning units ahead of the hot season this year.
"Air-conditioners have to be switched on in the morning even when performing solat (prayers) in the room. Otherwise, we will end up being drenched in sweat.
"In the mornings, I need to switch on two air-conditioners because the weather is very hot," he added. – BERNAMA
