Lorry driver dies after being hit by log in Gua Musang mishap

GUA MUSANG: A lorry driver just two months on the job died in hospital after being hit by a log from his vehicle at the Sri Wangsa Sawmill in the Gua Musang Industrial Area yesterday.

Norazlan Hamdan, 53, died while receiving treatment at the Gua Musang Hospital almost two hours after the 2.15pm mishap.

District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the manager of the sawmill lodged a report on the incident about 4pm.

"Initial investigations revealed the victim was unloading the logs from his lorry using the usual method, which was to unlock four chains first, leaving only the middle one to hold the logs in place. He would remove the locks on the left side of the vehicle, then move to the right to pull the chains off.

"Unfortunately, one of the logs rolled out of place and fell on him. His colleagues rushed him to hospital but he died while receiving treatment," he said.

Sik said police found no foul play in the incident and have classified the case as a "sudden death report", but investigations would continue.

He reminded the public not to speculate on the incident and to respect the privacy of the deceased's family.
