Kee's cremation ceremony held earlier to evade the press

KUALA LUMPUR: The cremation ceremony of Kee Kok Thiam, a key suspect in the corrupt scandalous 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) who died allegedly of a sudden illness, was held two hours earlier than scheduled at the Kepong Crematorium, here.

The family was said to have wanted to conduct the ceremony at 8am rather than the fixed 10am stated on the obituary notice to evade the presence of the press.

Some relatives and friends were unable to pay their last respects to Kee, who was 56 years old.

Several members of the media who had arrived at 8am were said to have been reprimanded by some of Kee's family members.

One of them had also forced a cameraman and a journalist to delete pictures from their handphones.

Kee's ashes are expected to be collected by family members tomorrow.
