KUBANG PASU: A retiree in Jitra is offering customers who purchase the "king of fruits" from his orchard here to eat all they can.
Elias Darus, 62, mades the offer due to the oversupply of durian in the market this year.
He said his 2.5ha orchard located in Jalan Wang Tepus in Kampung Lembah Arang, here, produced a lot of fruits this season.
"There are about 100 durian trees in my orchard and each tree is producing between 80 and 100 fruits in stages.
"Most of the durian trees here are the 'kampung breed', while some are the 'Musang King' breed, but the 'Musang King' trees are yielding many fruits this year.
"Daily, about 200kg of durian fall from the trees every morning and I sell them based on the orders I receive," he said.
Elias said although he had also marketed his durians online, the supply was still in abundance.
He added that market price for the "kampung durian" has plunged to about RM8 per kg this season as compared to between RM10 and RM12 in previous years.
"The more the fruits are produced, the lower the price will fall. Thus, I welcome customers to come in groups but I encourage them to place a booking first.
"This year there will be two stages of harvest. The first round is now, followed by the second round by end of August or September," he said.
Elias, a retired civil servant, said his customers came from as far as Selangor.
