KUALA LUMPUR: Infineon Technologies AG (Infineon) invests an extra €5 billion for a new 200mm Power Fab silicon carbide producing facility in Kulim, Kedah.
This factory, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, is set to be the largest in the world, and the investment will be channelled over a period of five years in the second phase of Module 3 construction.
"I welcome the investment announcement from Infineon as it reflects the company's faith in Malaysia. This announcement is a result of my discussion with its chief executive officer Dr Rutger Wijburg on July 24," he said.
Anwar said for the past five decades, Infineon had also made Malaysia a vital wafer manufacturing and fabrication hub and carried out chip semiconductor packaging from Batu Berendam in Melaka.
"Infineon's continued confidence in Malaysian reflects the country's investment ecosystem and its important position in the supply chain of global semiconductors.
"This cooperation also complements the National Investment Aspiration (NIA) and the New Industrialisation Master Plan, which is to attract high-tech and high-value investments to the country and support the global and domestic economies," he said in a statement tonight.
Anwar added that the investment is also in line with the Madani Economy, which the unity government has been championing.
"We hope Malaysia will become a leading economy in Asia and position ourselves among the top 30 economies in the world in time to come".
