PN wants govt to push for UN peacekeeping force at Asean-GCC Summit to halt Israeli atrocities

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has called on the government to use the Asean-GCC Summit to urge the United Nations (UN) to promptly establish and deploy a peacekeeping force to stop Israeli atrocities.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said every necessary step should be taken to exert pressure on Israel and its allies to halt the oppression against Palestine, including economic sanctions and bringing Israel to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

"PN urges the government to play a key role in pressuring the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to make stronger and bolder collective resolutions, initiating economic sanctions and international legal actions against the Israeli government.

"We also call upon the Malaysian government to fully utilise the Asean-GCC Summit on Thursday (tomorrow) to pressure the UN to make a resolution to immediately deploy UN Peacekeeping to halt the Israeli aggression.

"Nothing wrong for the OIC to be courageous and proactive by starting the mission of the OIC peacekeeping force at the Gaza border," he told a press conference in parliament today.

He added the government must boldly voice the matter, to raise awareness among the global Muslim community to respond to Israel's cruelty and arrogance.

"The economic power of the two billion Muslim population must be fully utilised to exert pressure on the Israeli regime and its allies.

"Furthermore, Israel needs to be brought to the ICC to be held accountable for what they did to Palestine."
