BENTONG: A lorry driven by an 18-year-old crashed into a stationary trailer along the Central Spine Road and burst into flames early this morning.
A passenger in the lorry, Mohd Ghazi Ab Razab, 53, was killed on the spot in the 4.30am accident.
Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the lorry was travelling from Kota Baru, Kelantan to Port Klang in Selangor when it lost control and rammed into the trailer carrying sawdust.
The trailer, which had a breakdown, had stopped at the side of the road.
"The lorry rammed the back of the trailer and caught fire," he said, adding the lorry driver broke his thigh bone and has been brought to Hospital Bentong for treatment.
The trailer driver was unhurt.
Zaiham said the 18-year-old driving the lorry had no driving license.
"We urge anyone who witnessed the accident to assist with investigations," he said adding the case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
