KOTA TINGGI: The second wave of floods in Johor is forecast to occur from Wednesday to Saturday, said Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Onn Hafiz said the prediction was shared by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) during a flood briefing recently.
"METMalaysia has informed that the second wave of continuous rain is expected to hit Johor from Jan 15 to 18.
"Therefore, I urge all Johoreans to remain alert and follow the instructions from the authorities to ensure the smooth management of the floods in the state," he said in a statement on his Facebook account today.
Meanwhile, residents of this district expressed concern over the second wave of flooding.
Rahizat Abdul Rahim, 49, a resident of Taman Mawai, said he, along with other flood victims at the flood evacuation centre, were not allowed to return home, even though the floodwaters had subsided, due to the upcoming second wave.
He said the PPS management informed them that continuous heavy rain is expected to resume tomorrow, with the second wave of flooding anticipated.
"The authorities at the PPS have asked all flood victims to stay at the shelter as there is a risk of the second wave with higher water levels expected.
"This time, the flood waters rose rapidly and had strong currents, which could make evacuation difficult if residents were allowed to return home.
"Therefore, we have to prepare by going back briefly to our homes to pack our belongings and move them to higher ground," he said.
