Teo: Internet boost planned for 7 major hospitals

BERA: The Communications Ministry is committed to enhancing Internet coverage and quality at seven key hospitals nationwide, following reports of communication access challenges at these facilities.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the Health Ministry had highlighted Internet and communication issues at several hospitals, prompting immediate action.

"The upgrading of telecommunications infrastructure will involve Rembau Hospital (Negri Sembilan), Tanah Merah Hospital (Melaka), Penang Hospital, Cyberjaya Hospital, Tuanku Nur Zahirah Hospital (Kuala Terengganu), Alor Gajah Hospital (Melaka), and Kuala Lumpur Hospital," she said during a working visit to the Bera Health Office and SK Bukit Rok yesterday.

Teo said that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would prioritise improving communication facilities at hospitals, health clinics, and district health centres to ensure better health management for the public.

"Addressing connectivity issues at other hospitals across the country will be carried out in stages," she said.

She also said that the Communications Ministry would collaborate with the Education Ministry to identify rural schools and Orang Asli settlements needing better Internet access to support learning and teaching activities.

She added that the MCMC would work closely with district offices and the Department of Orang Asli Development (Jakoa) to pinpoint settlements and traditional villages facing Internet coverage issues.
