MPTN launches updated Azan rendition incorporating AI technology

KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Television Networks (MPTN) introduced a new version of the Islamic call to prayer (Azan), enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The updated Azan aired for the first time during today's Zohor prayers, with Sheikh Abdul Karim Umar Al Makki reciting it.

Media Prima Berhad's Head of Islamic Content Ruzmi Kamaruddin explained that the initiative is part of MPTN's efforts to embrace modern technology while respecting Islamic traditions.

"After a decade, TV3 has launched a new version of the Azan. This is part of our mission to elevate the call to prayer. Although the Azan remains a sacred symbol, creating a fresh version required careful thought and planning," said Ruzmi.

He added that AI technology contributes 70 per cent to the updated Azan, which also features a reimagined visual and auditory experience.

"Despite these technological advancements, we selected the same muazzin who recorded the Azan 10 years ago for this rendition," Ruzmi noted.

"We aim to present an Azan that captivates listeners and encourages timely prayer observance."

The launch event was part of the 'Inspirasi Raudhah: Panggilan Jiwa, Penghubung Iman' program at Menara Kuala Lumpur.

The event also included insightful discussions on the spiritual significance of the Azan, with speakers such as Ustaz Khairul Anuar Basri and Ustaz Adnin Roslan, moderated by Ahmad Noor Sulaiman, and hosted by Ahmad Fedtri Yahya.
