KUALA LUMPUR: A grieving family has revealed they are being harassed by loan sharks who claim their 27-year-old son owed them money.
During a press conference, the family disclosed that the loan sharks had issued a chilling warning, stating their son would die if the debt remained unpaid.
Tragically, just days later, the family was informed that their son had fallen to his death.
Even after the victim's death, the loan sharks showed no remorse, and they recently sent runners to throw petrol bombs at the family's home.
At the press conference, the victim's father, only identified as Ho, recounted a conversation on Dec 17 last year in which his son admitted to owing money to loan sharks.
"My son admitted to owing SGD500 (MYR 1,648) to a group of loan sharks in Singapore, stating that the money was used for daily expenses.
"He also clarified that the other individuals claiming to be debt collectors were scammers," the father said in a China Press report.
However, just two days later, the family's nightmare began.
Ho received multiple calls from loan sharks demanding repayment.
When he attempted to contact his son, there was no response. That same day, a group of loan sharks ominously claimed that his son would soon die.
Concerned, Ho immediately contacted his son's roommate in Singapore, who informed him that his son had left the apartment at 4pm and never returned.
Singapore police later confirmed that his son had left the country.
"On Dec 21, I received a call from a funeral service provider who informed me that my son had fallen from a building and died at a hospital in Johor Baru. That was how we discovered he was gone."
Ho described his son as a quiet and honest individual and the claims that he borrowed money from multiple loan sharks were baseless, as the loan sharks did not provide any proof.
"Now that my son is gone, there is no way to verify their accusations. I urge them to stop harassing our family," he pleaded.
