Man teases wife to say 'I love you' just before her drowning

KOTA TINGGI: The woman who drowned at Bayu Impian Beach in Pengerang yesterday made a video call to her husband just before the incident.

Abu Mansur Ahmad Musa, 43, said today his wife, Siti Fatimah Jaafar, 33, surprised him with the video call.

"She looked so beautiful during the video call. I was puzzled because she had never made a video call before.

"My wife asked me not to forget to bring her belongings. I asked her about our children, and she said they were okay.

"I teased my wife during the video call. I asked her to say 'I love you,' but she was shy because there were many people around, so we ended the conversation."

He said this at Kota Tinggi Hospital.

The father of three said that he and about 20 family members had been staying at an accommodation since Monday for a vacation with his wife's side of the family.

However, at the time of the incident, Abu Mansur had returned to his home in Sungai Tiram to collect his wife's belongings.

A few minutes later, he was contacted by his nephew, who informed him that several family members, including his children, had been swept away by the current.

"I told my nephew to stay calm and also told my wife to remain calm.

"In the chaos to get to the accommodation, I received a call informing me that my wife had drowned.

"It turned out that my wife drowned because she tried to save those who were drowning, even though she couldn't swim," he said.

Siti Fatimah and her niece, Nur Arisya Hanan Mohd Salleh, 13, drowned, while four others survived.

Abu Mansur said that his wife had changed a lot recently, becoming more attached to him.

"Every time after prayers, she would cry, hug and kiss the children. She even taught our eldest and second child how to take care of our youngest child, who is autistic.

"She reminded me to pray in congregation at the mosque, as our family prayed together at home."

Abu Mansur said his second child, Muhammad Daniel Rifqie, 10, who survived, is being treated at the hospital's general ward.

He added his child is distressed and has been informed about his mother's death.

The remains of his wife and niece were buried at the Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Sungai Tiram.
