Oriental Kopi keeps service fees unchanged during CNY

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor-based Oriental Kopi has called off its plan to raise the service charge from 10 per cent to 15 per cent during Chinese New Year (CNY).

In a Facebook post yesterday, the popular kopitiam chain announced it would not increase service charges to 15 per cent on the first and second days of Chinese New Year.

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused over the past few days. During this Lunar New Year period, our service fee will remain unchanged; no adjustments will be made, and we are committed to providing you and your family and friends with the best," said the company in the post.

This decision follows public backlash over the coffee chain's earlier announcement regarding the increased service charge.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry had earlier urged the public to report any restaurants increasing prices during festive periods.

Founded in December 2020, Oriental Kopi operates 20 cafés across Malaysia and one in Singapore. The company also provides a range of in-store products, including packaged coffee and tea, spreads, pastries, instant noodles, and seasonal specialties like mooncakes.

Oriental Kopi Holdings Bhd debuted on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia today at 75 sen, marking a 31-sen premium over its initial public offer (IPO) price of 44 sen, with 67.47 million shares traded.

As of 10am, its share price surged 93.18 per cent or 41 sen, to 85 sen. The stock rose as much as 94.3 per cent in early trade to 85.5 sen.
