Sabah PKR aims to retain seats, push for greater representation

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) remains committed to retaining its incumbent seats while advocating for more representation, said its deputy chief Datuk Peto Galim.

Peto is the Inanam assemblyman while Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew is the elected representative for the Api-Api constituency.

"We have two seats currently, and we aim to retain them.

"If there's an opportunity for additional representation, it will be a welcomed development," said the assistant Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry minister after the ministry's annual address at Wisma Pertanian here.

Peto said it is important to adhere to party leadership decisions while continuing to serve the people.

"If the party asks me to contest, I will contest for the seat. If the party asks us to step aside for others, we comply.

"We follow the decisions of both the state and central leadership. Even as the election director (for PKR), I leave it to Sabah PKR leaders to decide on candidacies.

"We are focusing on two things: strengthening the party and continuing our service to the people.

"Our ultimate goal is to establish a government that serves everyone and drives comprehensive transformation in Sabah," he said, adding that any collaboration with other parties should focus on those sharing similar values, particularly in advancing development.

Reflecting on his track record in Inanam, Peto said in just two years, over 200 homes under the Sabah Maju Jaya programme were built at the constituency.

"This year, we aim to deliver more than 100 additional homes.

"Our focus has been on addressing small but significant community issues, such as water supply, tanks, pipes, and potholes," he said.
