Road users warned of 2 crosswind locations on Plus highway

NILAI: The Fire and Rescue Department of Negri Sembilan has advised road users to be more cautious at two crosswind locations on the Plus North-South Expressway.

Assistant director of the Fire Safety Division, Senior Fire Officer II Mohamed Faiz Muin Mohamed Rasidi said the two locations situated in the state are from KM222 of the Melaka border until Hentian Senawang and KM 267 Ainsdale up to Seri Putera.

"Both these locations are accident hotspots due to, among others, the crosswinds and negligence on the part of road users.

"As such, motorists must always be cautious and alert while driving, particularly during the festive season as more vehicles will be on the road," he said after officiating the launch of the state-level Public Awareness and Safety Campaign for the Chinese New Year Festive Season here today.

Mohamed Faiz Muin said that 150 personnel and 26 vehicles as well as three Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vans will be on standby in conjunction with the Jan 28-Feb 2 Op Siaga Raya.

He said one of the vehicles will be stationed at the Pedas Toll while the state Fire and Rescue Department's Rapid Intervention Motorcycle unit will carry out periodic patrols along the highway up to Nilai to ensure the traffic situation is under control.

He advised those going back to their hometowns and leaving their homes for long periods, especially during festive seasons, to turn off all electric switches that are not in use.

"Before you leave your home, check all fire hazards, especially the main switches for lights, fans and water filters to avoid any unwanted incidents," he said.
