Immigration Dept achieves 98pct job rotation rate

KUALA LUMPUR: As of Dec 31, the Immigration Department achieved a 97.94 per cent job rotation rate, with 3,178 officers nationwide having either shifted roles or undergone job rotations.

Its director-general, Datuk Zakaria Shaban, in a statement today, said that job rotation is one of the department's main focuses and will be implemented continuously as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and accountability within its ranks.

"We welcome the new directive regarding the implementation of the job rotation for service counter staff who have served for more than five years, as intended by the Public Service Department director-general, following the instructions of the Chief Secretary to the Government in his mandate on Jan 20. We believe that the implementation of this measure can overcome the problem of abuse of power and integrity issues, in addition to providing officers with opportunities to take on new tasks and responsibilities, thus improving their skills and knowledge," he said.

Zakaria added that, in addition to the job rotation, the department also takes seriously and does not compromise with any integrity violations by its officers.

"From 2022 to last year, a total of 241 officers were subject to disciplinary action, and 46 people were subject to dismissal. The department is committed to providing the best service to all customers, whether Malaysians or foreigners. We also welcome suggestions for improvement as a continuous effort of the Immigration Department."
