KUCHING: A landslide in Miri in the early hours of the morning buried two homes housing 12 people.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, but it has been confirmed that one person has died.
Another seven people have been rescued.
The 4.55am landslide in Kampung Lereng Bukit trapped residents under soil in two homes after heavy rain.
The first house had seven occupants, while the second had five.
All five from the second house have been rescued, while only three of the seven from the first house have been pulled out.
The victim who died was a teenage boy, found at 6.17am. The rescued victims include a woman and a teenage girl.
Authorities, led by the Fire and Rescue Department, are searching for four more victims: two women aged 41 and 71, and two girls aged 8 and 12.
