Miri landslide: Body of last victim found, 5 confirmed dead

KUCHING: The fifth and final victim of the landslide tragedy in Kampung Lereng Bukit, Miri, was found at 6.06pm today.

District police chief assistant commissioner Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim has been identified as 71-year-old Fatimah Dawi.

With the discovery of the elderly woman's body, the total death toll from the incident, which occurred at around 3am, stands at five.

Alexson said the victim's body was retrieved from the rubble at 6.26pm and transported to Miri Hospital.

He said a total of 12 people residing in two houses were affected by the landslide.

"Of the total, five victims have been confirmed dead, two sustained injuries, and the rest are safe.

"Among the injured, one was found at the scene, while the other managed to escape when the landslide occurred," he said.

He said the first victim's body was found at 6am, followed by the second at 10.40am, the third at 11.30am, and the fourth at 11.40am.

However, the identities of the other four deceased victims have yet to be disclosed.
