Village chief serves food and solutions for CNY

MACHANG: Village head Quek Eh Hak, 49, makes use of the Chinese New Year public holiday to listen to villagers' problems at his home while providing them with delicious food.

The father of three, who owns a transport company, said he has been hosting these gatherings since last year.

"I was appointed the Village Security and Development Committee chief for Kampung Mata Ayer. I am the eyes and ears of the government.

"As I am also busy with my company, I use the two-day Chinese New Year public holiday to invite villagers to my home.

"I encourage them to share the problems they are facing. We spend two to three hours discussing and finding solutions.

"Doing it this way will make easier for me to solve their problems. I will also take the issues to a higher level."

At the gathering, Quek said guests, comprising Chinese and Malays villagers, would be served delicacies.

"In addition to snacks, I will also serve roti jala and kuzi ayam."
