Sarawak Islamic Council calls for mosques, surau to hold special prayers amid ongoing floods

SIBU: The Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) has instructed all mosques and Friday prayer suraus across Sarawak to perform the special 'solat hajat' prayers in the wake of the floods in all states after the Friday prayers today.

The directive was issued in a circular dated yesterday, signed by MIS Secretary Mual Suaud, and distributed to all chairmen of Welfare Trust Boards and Mosque and Friday Prayer Surau Management Committees throughout Sarawak.

The circular stated that the Sarawak Islamic Council expresses deep concern over the ongoing flood disaster in Sarawak, particularly in Serian, Bintulu, and Miri, which has affected residents' lives and caused property damage.

This morning, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the number of flood victims in Sarawak has risen to 9,398 people from 2,725 families.

Bintulu recorded the highest number of victims, with 4,021 people from 1,090 families seeking shelter in six Temporary Relief Centres (PPS), followed by Serian with 1,886 victims from 602 families housed in 15 PPS. – BERNAMA
