Mahar supports Malaysia's commitment to rebuilding Gaza

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Humanitarian Aid and Relief (Mahar) welcomes Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent announcement reaffirming Malaysia's commitment to financing the reconstruction of schools, hospitals, and mosques in Gaza.

It said the initiative underscores Malaysia's steadfast solidarity with the Palestinian people and reflects the nation's dedication to meaningful humanitarian action.

"Humanitarian efforts demand more than goodwill – they require knowledge, strategic planning, and the resilience to face real challenges on the ground," said its president Jismi Johari in a statement on Friday.

"Mahar remains steadfast in its mission to support our Palestinian brothers and sisters, and we stand ready to contribute towards Malaysia's broader humanitarian vision," he added.

Mahar said it fully supports this noble effort and remains committed to playing a proactive role in channelling humanitarian aid, mobilising expert assistance, and ensuring the effective deployment of resources towards the success of these reconstruction projects.

Beyond reconstruction, Mahar recognised the urgent need to support displaced Palestinians, particularly those currently residing in Malaysia.

The organisation called for measures to facilitate valid documentation and work permits for Palestinian refugees, ensuring they can sustain themselves while awaiting Gaza's recovery.

Additionally, Mahar is advocating for increased support for Palestinian university students in Malaysia, whose families have lost their livelihoods due to the ongoing conflict.

Through its 'Dapur Ihsan' initiative, Mahar said it will continue to provide daily cooked meals to thosein need, alongside ongoing efforts to deliver food supplies and essential aid to affected communities in Gaza.

"Mahar will continue strengthening collaborations with key stakeholders to ensure a holistic and effective humanitarian response, both in Malaysia and internationally," the statement said.
