KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in Sabah and Sarawak surged to 13,687 individuals from 4,176 families up to 6am today.
Sarawak remains the most affected state, with 12,191 victims from 3,680 families, while Sabah recorded 1,496 victims from 496 families, according to the National Disaster Management Agency's National Disaster Command Centre.
Floodwaters have worsened in several Sarawak districts, with increasing numbers of evacuees reported in Bintulu, Serian, Selangau, Siburan, Subis and Mukah.
However, in Paitan, Sabah, the situation has improved, with a decrease in the number of evacuees. Other affected districts saw no change.
Authorities have expanded relief efforts, with the total number of temporary relief centres increasing to 73 across the two states. The figure comprises 64 in Sarawak and 9 in Sabah.
