BATU PAHAT: The Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) has given its assurance that fish and seafood supply will remain sufficient throughout this year's Ramadan and Hari Raya celebrations.
Its chairman, Muhammad Faiz Fadzil, said they are working closely with partners to ensure an adequate fish supply during Ramadan and Raya.
The collaborations with private companies have been key to maintaining stock levels and ensuring consistent fish production, especially during festive seasons and the monsoon period.
"During the recent monsoon and Chinese New Year, we observed that the fish supply was sufficient and prices remained stable. This proves that our supply chain is robust and we can manage prices effectively.
"We are confident there will be sufficient seafood supply and it would continue to meet demand, especially in the lead-up to Ramadan and Raya," he said after presenting contributions under the Madani aid programme to assist fishermen's children with school supplies, here today.
Present was Johor LKIM director Intan Suhaila Othman.
The back-to-school initiative, in collaboration with Petronas, provided RM50,000 to support the children.
Batu Pahat is the third location for the programme, following Krian, Perak, and Kuala Nerus, Terengganu, with future sessions planned for Sarawak and Sabah.
Through this programme, Faiz said 100 students from B40 fishermen families received assistance to help alleviate their financial burden and to motivate students to succeed academically and improve their families' lives.
"Data shows nearly 10 per cent of fishermen's children struggle with core education. This assistance, which includes school supplies from Petronas and RM50 vouchers for uniforms, will help them stay on track with their education," he added.
