High tides and strong waves leave a house on edge

KUALA NERUS: Strong waves and winds have worsened coastal erosion at a bungalow in Kampung Tanjung over the past three days.

The bungalow's owner, Mohd Yazit Idris, 66, said continuous wave activity has brought the latest erosion closer to the fence on the right side of his house.

He added that after the embankment work he carried out, the beach was over 10m from his fence, but now only about 3m remain.

He said that before the recent erosion, visitors could walk behind the house to view the damaged structure, but worsening conditions have made the path inaccessible.

"I am worried because the erosion is getting closer to my fence, especially with the strong waves at night.

"The high tide over the past few days has worsened the situation," he said at his home.

Yazit hoped that beach embankment work near his house would be carried out immediately, as the erosion is now affecting the sides of his property, not just the back.

He said he is concerned that a coconut tree near his house may collapse due to erosion.

"I urge the authorities to expedite the embankment work, as more than 7m of the pathway behind my house has eroded in just three days.

"The relief I felt a week ago has turned into anxiety as the erosion worsens," he said.

Yazit's blue bungalow gained attention after facing severe coastal erosion.

However, beach embankment work in early January helped prevent further damage.
