#NSTviral Woman fends off marriage proposal from e-hailing driver during ride

KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a e-hailing driver verbally harassing his female passenger has been making its rounds on social media platform X.

In the short video recorded by the victim, the driver can be heard asking personal questions which were making the passenger feel uncomfortable and wary of her safety.

"Can I take you out later for a drink?" he asked, followed by an abrupt question regarding marriage proposals.

Even though the victim had clarified her relationship status, the driver failed to take the hint and proceeded to ask whether her partner earns more than him which made her feel even more uncomfortable.

"This guy has been trying to ask me out, praising me for how I look and even asking for my hand in marriage," she said in the post, adding that she was horrified by the untoward situation.

"We never met before and this is the first time he picked me up from my office," she said.

The comment section was flooded with netizens addressing their concern and worry towards the victim.

"I had also experienced the same situation, my driver was asking me personal questions but I kept on replying because I was concerned for my safety," user @akmanuma said.

Another user @Iradookay suggested that if such an incident happened, the person should try to call someone and talk with them until the drop off point because it will indicate your unavailability to entertain the driver's conversation.

@nazr1e recommended stating one's marital status as married to hint to the driver to end his conversation.

Thankfully, the video owner reached her home unharmed and she said she has reported the incident to the e-hailing company.

"I looked him up on Facebook and Instagram and guess what? He's a former teacher with four kids," she commented.

The video has since garnered 1.1 million views.

The New Straits Times has reached out to the company for comments.
