Shahrizat satisfied with the increase in Wanita candidates for GE 14

PAGOH: Barisan Nasional Wanita chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has today confirmed an increase of 11.7 per cent of Wanita candidates to be contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Although it was lesser than the 30 per cent that had been targeted, Shahrizat said she was happy with the number, which was 1.8 per cent more than the seats contested by BN Wanita in GE13.

“Thirty per cent was only a target. It is not easy to choose candidates for this time around and I believe the selection made was the best. We’ve reached our KPI (key performance indicator) of having more wanita candidates contesting than the last general election,” said Shahrizat.

There will be a total of 85 BN Wanita candidates given the responsibility in this general election.

“A total of 26 candidates from BN Wanita will be contesting in parliamentary seats while 59 more for state seats.

There is an increase of 15 candidates compared to the seats contested by BN Wanita in GE13 and this shows how committed BN is to empowering wanita’s role in all sectors including political,” said Shahrizat.

The combination of old and new also proofs that BN are always open to new improvements without discrediting experiential factor in formulating BN’s winning formula in GE14.

At the same time there are an increase of 57.6 per cent or 49 new candidates and 36 of those who will be contesting to retain their seats.

There will be a total of 52 seats contested by wanita, Puteri and UMNO division while the rest are from MCA, MIC, GERAKAN, PBB, PBS, SUPP, LDP dan PRS.

Shahrizat also confirmed that she would not be contesting in GE14.
