Masjid Tanah Umno wants Mas Ermieyati to quit as MP

MASJID TANAH: More than 200 Umno committee members from 64 branches in the Masjid Tanah Umno division last night signed a memorandum demanding Datuk Wira Mas Ermieyati Samsudin to resign as Masjid Tanah member of Parliament immediately.

The memorandum was signed by the Masjid Tanah Umno division leadership, including the Pemuda, Wanita and Puteri wings.

In a one-hour closed-door meeting chaired by Masjid Tanah Umno division chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh last night, the grassroots voiced their anger and displeasure over the former Puteri Umno leader’s decision to leave Umno and demanded that she resign as MP immediately.

“On the basis of principles, justice and the party’s struggles, Masjid Tanah Umno hereby request that Yang Berhormat Datuk Wira Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who is now an independent, to not betray the mandate given to her in the 14th General Election.

“This is especially for the workers, supporters and voters of Barisan Nasional’s election machinery who brought her victory in the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency,” the memorandum read.

The memorandum also stated that Masjid Tanah Umno was disappointed and shocked by Mas Ermieyati’s actions, which were “tantamount to cheating her voters”.

It said it was the voters who delivered a huge victory for her, including in all five state seats within the parliamentary seat.

Mas Ermieyati quit Umno on Sunday, saying that it had strayed from its struggles that caused the Malays to reject the 72-year-old party.

She had said she would continue serving her constituency as an independent representative and pledged to observe and advise the government based on a check-and-balance policy without being tied to ethics of an MP who represented a certain party.
