Nurul Izzah says won't vacate Permatang Pauh for father

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has denied that she will relinquish her Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat for her father, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to contest in a by-election.

She said the seat held many personal memories for her and she regarded it as her “cinta abadi” (eternal love).

“I am very committed (to Permatang Pauh). I have lots on my agenda there and I will remain in Permatang Pauh till the end of this Parliamentary term,” she told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

Nurul Izzah had been asked whether she would vacate the seat to allow Anwar to contest a by-election there as he had been its member of parliament for a long time.

Anwar had only this weekend won the PKR presidency uncontested, opening the way for Pakatan Harapan to carry out its plan to eventually place him as prime minister.

His wife and previous PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had also earlier confirmed that she would remain the MP for Pandan as well as her position in the cabinet.

Apart from being deputy prime minister, Dr Wan Azizah is also women and community development minister.
