Nik Abduh only protects the party, not lying: Pas sec-gen

SEMENYIH : PAS leader Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz was not lying when he denied that the voice behind an audio recording of the alleged millions of ringgit received from Umno was his, but was employing a strategy to protect the party.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said Nik Abduh’s denial was a move to face political opponents who continued to attack the party and tarnish its image.

“He (Nik Mohamad Abduh) was not lying. But in certain situations for certain matters, you cannot confirm it. That’s all.

“‘If you listened to the audio, the fact (is) that the statement was made, but it was only partially quoted. He was quoted out of context,” said Takiyuddin when met after Barisan Nasional’s candidate announcement for Semenyih by-election.

He said PAS had become a victim of circumstances and had to strategise wisely.

“We need to strategise our move. We are not admitting to certain things or telling things the other way round. This (the denial) is not a lie,” he added.

MACC on last Tuesday opened an investigation into an allegation that Umno had paid RM90 million to Pas leaders to secure their backing in the GE14.

Nik Abduh, who has been associated with the audio recording, initially denied that the voice behind the recording was his, rubbishing the allegation as slander.

However on Wednesday, the Central Pas Committee Member made a U-turn and said he had to issue a denial because his party had requested him to so.

On Tuesday, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the audio recording was an academic discussion on contributions that the party would wanted to accept for the 14th general election.

The veracity of the recording came to light following Abdul Hadi’s out-of-court settlement in a defamation suit against Sarawak Report.
