Ronald Kiandee wants to see development progress in Beluran

KOTA KINABALU: Beluran lawmaker Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee looks forward to seeing the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government speeding up the development process for his parliamentary constituency.

Being a government parliamentarian now, the Beluran MP believed he would have the capacity to serve his constituents better.

“I want to be able to continue helping my constituents. Politics is about development and what’s the point of being in a party barking here and there but you cannot help them (the people),” he said when contacted, today.

“Beluran is one of the parliamentary constituencies in Sabah that records a double digit of poverty rate. This is highlighted in the mid-term review report of the 11th Malaysia Plan presented in Parliament recently.

“I hope the government will accelerate the development process for Beluran. My constituents want continuous developments from the government. I look forward to these,” added Kiandee.

Kiandee left Umno in December last year to become an independent MP.

Yesterday, he was among four Sabah parliamentarians to officially receive their Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) membership cards from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Others are Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri (Kudat), Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun (Beaufort), and Datuk Zakaria Edris (Libaran).

Two senators and two assemblymen from Sabah also received their Bersatu membersip cards.

The assemblymen were Datuk Hajiji Haji Noor (Sulaman) and Datuk Masidi Manjun (Karanaan), while the senators were Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohamed Yassin and Datuk John Ambrose.

Commenting further on why he chose Bersatu as his political platform, Kiandee said he had been a government MP since 1999 and knew the difference between being a parliamentarian in the government as well as in the opposition.

“I believe Bersatu as a party can help me better as an MP. My constituents supported my decision (to join Bersatu). Even from day one when we lost the government, some of them advised me to switch party,” he said.

On Bersatu's future planning and leadership in Sabah, Kiandee said the media should pose the questions to the prime minister during the launch of Sabah Bersatu, which is to be held in the state capital on April 6.
