Kelantan Amanah to contest 8 of 14 parliamentary seats

KOTA BARU: Kelantan Parti Amanah Negara is expected to contest eight of the 14 parliamentary constituencies in the state in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The New Straits Times has learnt that the party will field its candidates in Tumpat, Pengkalan Chepa, Kubang Kerian, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, Jeli, Rantau Panjang and Kota Baru.

The candidates will include two women and will comprise corporate figures as well as those from professional backgrounds.

Among the names expected in the list are Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, the eldest son of the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who was Kelantan menteri besar and Pas spiritual leader.

Nik Omar, who is former Malaysia Islamic Dakwah Foundation (Yadim) president, is expected to contest in Kuala Krai.

The 57-year-old had contested as a Pakatan Harapan candidate in the Chempaka state seat in the last general election in 2018. He lost to Ahmad Fathan Mahmood of Pas.

Fathan gained 10,549 votes while Nik Omar only got 2,418 votes.

When contacted by the NST, Kelantan Amanah chairman Muhammad Husain said the party leadership would announce the candidate list soon.

"I am aware that the list is being spread around but I cannot confirm it. It is better to wait for the party president's announcement," said Muhamad, who is also Kelantan PH chairman, when commenting on a WhatsApp message about the candidate list.
