KUALA LUMPUR: Those with information on alleged bribery involving postal voting in Bera must come forward to report the matter.
The Election Commission (EC) said that they should report the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
"If there are kickbacks or bribery during the postal voting process for P.060 Bera parliamentary seat, as alleged, then complainants with information or proof of such a matter should lodge a report with MACC."
PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier today claimed that military personnel in the Bera constituency cast their votes today, and that they were paid RM300.
Anwar said this at an event in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu.
Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, however, denied the claim, saying it was slanderous and degrading to the security personnel.
Ismail Sabri is the incumbent and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Bera seat.
He further said that Anwar's statement was deliberately done to paint a negative perception towards BN ahead of the 15th General Election.
Early voting for GE15 has been fixed on Nov 15, and polling day on Nov 19.
Members of the armed forces have been reminded that the institution of the armed forces is strictly apolitical and will forever remain as such.
Ex-serviceman Captain Dr Wong Ang Peng (Rtd) said while the allegation of illegal early voting by the armed forces had taken place could not be confirmed, military personnel had been reminded of the Election Offences Act 1954, where those breaking the law could be severely dealt with.
"Those who commit offences under Section 11 of the Act can face imprisonment of up to two years.
"Officers can also be dealt with under the Armed Forces Act," he said, adding that he hoped the allegation was not true.
