GUA MUSANG: Gua Musang Umno division is confident that Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah will be able to lead the division into 'greatness' for the next four years.
Its newly-minted deputy chief Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said this was because Tengku Razaleigh has a lot of experience in politics.
"We (Gua Musang Umno division) will continue to give our undivided support to him," he said.
During yesterday's election, the Galas assemblyman, who won the deputy post uncontested yesterday, said all party members have pledged their loyalty to Tengku Razaleigh and other leaders.
Asked on preparations for the state election, Syahbuddin said its machineries have been placed on 'standby mode' to face the polls.
At the Gua Musang Umno divisional meeting yesterday, Tengku Razaleigh, who is the incumbent Gua Musang division chief, retained the post he held since 1962.
Fondly known as Ku Li, the 85-year-old defeated two other contenders - Che Mohd Izani Che Musa and Datuk Saari Lembut - in a three-cornered fight for the post.
The veteran politician garnered 453 votes while challengers Mohd Izani and Saari obtained 46 and five votes respectively.
Tengku Razaleigh first held the post of Gua Musang Umno chief at the age of 25, making him the longest-serving party division chief in history.
This was the second time Tengku Razaleigh was challenged for the post which he held for more than 50 years, since the area was known as Ulu Kelantan.
