Don't be a wolf in sheep's clothing, Puad tells unity govt MPs

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno leader today urged parties and figures in the unity government to maintain political stability under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The reminder from Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi came on the heels of speculation about a fresh attempt to topple the federal government by way of a by-election.

Puad emphasised the call by Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for priorities to be placed on the people, economy and prosperity of the country.

"The reminder from the sultan of Johor is not only for the parties from the opposition fold but also members of the unity government to ensure the country's political stability.

"To political parties and members of parliament in the government, do not double cross the federal administration.

"Do not get involved with the alleged process of fishing for political support with the opposing camp," said Puad in a posting on his Facebook page today.

He added that the decree by the sultan of Johor was loud and clear that there should be no speculation or any form of provocation, attempt or plot to change the federal administration.

"All parties were given the chance (to win the support of voters) during the 15th General Election.

"Having that said, the reminder from the sultan of Johor is necessary since the idea for the formation of a unity government was proposed in the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as a solution to resolve the political uncertainties at the time.

"Let us all defend the country's political stability."

Anwar yesterday said he was unperturbed by speculation suggesting that opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin had gathered enough support to topple the current administration.

He also expressed confidence that the unity government under his leadership was stable and would remain intact until the next general election.
