Mata Ayer assemblyman's health condition improving, says Perlis state assembly speaker

KANGAR: Mata Ayer assemblyman Wan Badariah Wan Saad, who has been undergoing treatment at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital since last week due to complications from her thyroid condition, is beginning to show positive signs of recovery.

Perlis State Legislative Assembly speaker Rus'ele Eizan said that based on information received this morning, the health condition of the State Tourism Development, Culture, Arts and Heritage, Empowerment of Women, Family and Community committee chairman is quite positive.

"Based on the information this morning, her health has improved, but I am not sure whether she has been discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a regular ward or not.

"However, the news received indicates that she is starting to regain consciousness and show positive signs," he told reporters today.

Rus'ele said if the State Legislative Assembly Session takes place, the 48-year-old politician's place as assemblyman will not be forfeited if she has already submitted sick leave.

"If she (Wan Badariah Wan Saad) is absent from the State Legislative Assembly Session for six months or three sessions, then her membership as a assemblyman will be forfeited.

"However, if she attends even once in a session, her membership remains, and for the current development, she can apply for leave from the Speaker due to health problems," he said.

Last week, Wan Badariah was admitted to the hospital after experiencing health issues due to complications from her thyroid condition.

She also had to be sedated as her health deteriorated further, forcing her to rely on respiratory assistance.

Wan Badariah, a lawyer from Padang Siding, emerged as the first female candidate named by Pas Perlis to contest a state seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) two years ago.
