Perak MB to seek an audience with Sultan of Perak [NSTTV]

IPOH: Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu will seek an audience with Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, over the state's political situation as soon as possible.

"The Sultan needs to make a decision to choose one of us whom he trusts and receive a majority (votes from the assemblymen) to form a state government. It needs to be done immediately to get our 2021 state budget approved.

"When I seek an audience with the Sultan, I can advise him to dissolve the government but the situation is still not conducive for a state election. So what should I do? I should be a nice person, be quiet and give my support to whoever the Sultan picks.

"I will also give my full commitment, cooperation with whoever the Sultan appoints to become the next mentri besar.

"I will also make sure that the administration transition is done smoothly and during this difficult time, we need to prioritise the people," he told reporters at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here today.

Ahmad Faizal is scheduled to meet Sultan Nazrin before the state legislative assembly sitting continues this Wednesday.

Earlier, the Chenderiang assemblyman failed to secure a simple majority in a motion of confidence tabled in the 14th state legislative assembly sitting.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president only saw 10 out of 59 assemblymen supporting him. 58 voted against the motion while one was a spoiled vote.

The motion was tabled by Pengkalan Baru assemblyman Datuk Abdul Manaf Hashim and supported by BN-Temenggor assemblyman, Salbiah Mohamad and DAP-Pasir Pinji assemblyman, Howard Lee.

The state legislative assembly sitting will be adjourned until this Wednesday.

Asked whether he had predicted such motion to be brought up, Ahmad Faizal said such move to oust him as menteri besar has been in works since the first day he entered the state's top appointed office.

"I may look calm right now but deep inside, I feel uneasy because I am worried about the state's budget which is supposed to be tabled this afternoon.

"In the event there is a motion of confidence in me, it should have been done after I tabled the budget. But it did not happen. I think we should not talk about power transition but help the people," he said.

Asked whether Perak Bersatu would remain in the state Perikatan Nasional (PN), Ahmad Faizal urged state Bersatu members to accept his outcome with an open heart.

"Perak Bersatu will stay and strengthen our relationship with Perikatan Nasional. I believe PN is a good government, acceptable by the people and the momentum should be retained.

"Whatever it is in the Perak government, I hope everything will run smoothly, even though I know some of them might think that they deserve to be a menteri besar," he said.
