SESB provides gensets to Menara Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has installed six portable generators in the Menara Kinabalu area to meet the electricity supply needs of the building.

Menara Kinabalu is the Sabah administrative building where the Chief Minister's office is located.

SESB senior general manager (Asset Management) Idris Mohd Noor said the move was taken following a power supply disruption to the building caused by damage to SESB's cables.

Several other areas consisting of nearby residential and commercial premises were also affected.

SESB's technical team found that the damage to the 33kV line was caused by an attempt to cut and steal the cable by an irresponsible party.

"We found evidence of cut and burn marks, which was an attempt to steal SESB's cables, and this incident has affected the supply to several areas in Alam Mesra, Likas and Menara Kinabalu. Restoration works have been carried out in stages," he said in a statement to the media today.

SESB successfully restored the electricity supply to all affected areas on the same day.

However, Idris said the supply to Menara Kinabalu was still affected as there was a second cable still damaged since last night.

The second damage was suspected to be caused by earthworks along the main underground cable route.

Restoration works are currently underway.
