KUALA LUMPUR: A civil servant is one of two individuals arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of making false claims.
The false claims are related to a fish food processing project involving an organisation in Kubang Pasu with a total value of RM760,000, even though the supply project in question was never implemented.
According to sources, both male suspects, aged in their 30s and 50s, were believed to have been detained between 2 and 3pm yesterday while providing statements at the MACC office in Kedah.
"The suspects are believed to have conspired with a company owner, who is also the sole supplier for the project and is in his 50s, who committed the offense from 2017 to 2020," said the source.
Following their arrest, both suspects were brought to the Alor Setar Magistrate's Court in Kedah this morning for a remand application.
Magistrate Siti Norhidayah Mohd Noor issued a four-day remand order starting today until September 15 for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Kedah MACC director, Rosley Mohamad Satar, confirmed the arrests and said that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
