Shuttler Jin Wei in no rush to play again

NATIONAL women's singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei believes everything happens for a reason.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Jin Wei has been focusing on her recovery after undergoing colonoscopy surgery last year.

While Jin Wei has already made a comeback, there are still some side effects that the 20-year-old is still dealing with.

The Penang-born has not played in tournaments since February.

Jin Wei welcomes the idea of national players training under their respective state badminton associations while they wait to return to the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.

The national training centre remains exclusive to players under the Road to Tokyo (RTT) programme until the end of this month.

"I believe it's a good idea as I am still in Penang. I am also no stranger to the Penang BA as I have trained with them in the past.

"As much as the Covid-19 pandemic has affected us, I see it as a blessing in disguise as I also get to deal with some side effects from my surgery last year.

"My pelvic floor is still weak, and it's not something you heal with medication," said Jin Wei.

Currently ranked No 138 in the world, Jin Wei hopes to play in a couple of tournaments before the end of the year.

Her expectations, however, are not too high.

"Well, ideally it would be nice to play in a few tournaments as my ranking is really low now.

"But with the current situation, I won't be too disappointed if that doesn't happen.

"As long as I know I'm ready to play," added the two-time former world junior champion.

However, Jin Wei did mention that she would like to represent the country at the Uber Cup Finals in Aarhus, Denmark on Oct 3-11.

The BA of Malaysia (BAM) opened their doors to the RTT athletes on June 1 and are expected to bring the rest of their players back in phases beginning next month.

BAM have also welcomed independent players, likely to make the cut for the Thomas and Uber Cups, to train under one roof.
