CHEAM June Wei has had enough of 2020 and can't wait to get the new season started next year.
Yesterday, June Wei and his peers were given a one-week break by the BA of Malaysia (BAM), after having spent more than a month under self-lockdown at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.
June Wei, 23, had no qualms about getting away from the national training centre despite the lack of tournaments this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I'm glad to get out actually. No offense to anybody but it has been a very strange year.
"At times, it got frustrating because we were stuck in one place, while everyone else was moving freely outside.
"I'm relieved to finally get this break. I will spend a few days with my friends here in Kuala Lumpur before driving up to Penang.
"We should all be recharged for the new season when we return," said the 23-year-old, whose last major tournament was the Asia Team Championships in February.
The World No 74 is unsure if he would qualify for the Asian leg of World Tour in January.
However, June Wei is ready to step up to the plate when the time comes.
"I am unsure whether I will qualify for the Thailand Opens (two World Tour Super 1000 events) in January because of my current ranking, but I am ready to play whenever," added June Wei.
Before the break, June Wei inspired his team, the Avengers, to victory at the BAM Mixed Team Championship.
