Ee Wei inspired by world champ Aaron

KUALA LUMPUR: Drawing inspiration from Aaron Chia's World Championships success in Tokyo last month, Melaka's Toh Ee Wei is all fired up to defend her two gold medals at the Malaysia Games today.

Ee Wei, who won the mixed doubles gold with Aaron four years ago in Perak, yesterday marched into the finals of the women's doubles and mixed doubles event, with two new partners.

In the women's doubles semi-finals, Ee Wei-Yap Ling defeated Federal Territories' Tang Wen Xin-Wong Kha Yan 21-9, 21-17, while in the mixed doubles last four, Ee Wei-Tee Kai Wun made easy work of Sarawak's Owen Ting Shih Wee-Wong Ling Ching 21-13, 21-7.

In the women's doubles final, Ee Wei-Yap Ling will face the twin combination from Kedah, Cheng Su Hui-Cheng Su Yin, while in the mixed doubles, Ee Wei-Kai Wun will play Kelantan's Haikal Nazri-Chan Wen Tse.

When met at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Ee Wei, 22, said: "Of course as fellow Melaka players, we are all proud of Aaron for winning the World Championships with Soh Wooi Yik.

"Aaron is definitely a role model for all of us.

"Yes, I won two gold medals at the previous Games, and I will give my best to defend them despite me playing with two new partners."

Meanwhile, in the men's singles semi-finals, world No 36 Ng Tze Yong, as expected, cruised into the final after defeating Selangor's Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin 21-14, 21-15.

Tze Yong, who represents Johor, will play 2017 Asian junior champion Leong Jun Hao from Federal Territories for the gold.
