Pearly-Thinaah crash as they run out of gas in Hangzhou

HANGZHOU: Malaysia's wait for a women's doubles medal at the Asian Games continues after Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah crashed out in the quarter-finals today.

Despite holding advantage after winning the first game, Pearly-Thinaah could not close the match, bowing out i15-21, 21-11, 21-7 to world No 2 Baek Ha Na-Lee So Hee of South Korea.

"We played very well in the first game, and our attacking game worked in our favour.

"In the second the Koreans found their rhythm, and got their timings right. They were more patient and it was hard to force them into making any error.

"This is something we need to learn," said Pearly.

The 2022 French Open champions also admitted that they ran out of gas in the decider.

"Towards the end we lost our energy," lamented Thinaah.

At the previous Jakarta-Palembang edition, Malaysia failed to win a single medal in badminton.

Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei were the last Malaysian women's doubles to win a medal at the Asiad, when they settled for the bronze at the 2014 Incheon Games.
